Decline to share your home address

You can appreciate an offer of a lift while keeping your home address private. Meet at the public place you agreed, arrange your own travel or choose another pickup point that you are comfortable sharing. A fake address and live tracking create different risks rather than solving the boundary.

State the public plan

Say where you will meet and that you are arranging the journey yourself. You do not need to describe your home, neighbourhood or reason for keeping the address private. A public landmark is enough for the date.

Separate courtesy from access

Thanking someone for offering a lift does not mean accepting it. If you want, suggest a station, shop or busy corner that is convenient without revealing your home. If they need your address to continue, the offer is no longer simply practical.

Notice pressure

A respectful person accepts the boundary and meets you where agreed. Repeated requests, guilt or demands for live location are useful information. You can cancel or choose another plan without supplying a fake address that may create confusion later.

Message examples

Keep the meeting public

Thatโ€™s kind of you, but Iโ€™m not sharing my home address. Iโ€™ll meet you at the station entrance at seven and make my own way there.

It appreciates the offer, states the boundary and gives a precise public meeting point.

Decline pressure

Iโ€™ve already said Iโ€™ll meet in public. Iโ€™m not sending my address or live location, so letโ€™s leave the plan here if that doesnโ€™t work for you.

It repeats the limit and makes the consequence about compatibility rather than a debate.

Frequently asked questions

Is refusing a lift rude?

No. Transport is optional and your address is personal information. You can thank them, choose a public point or arrange your own journey without explaining more.

What if they say a real address proves I trust them?

Trust is not measured by surrendering a private location. Keep the first meeting public and notice whether the person respects a boundary that does not harm the plan.
