Encourage them before an important event

Support before an exam, presentation or other important event should reduce pressure rather than create another task. Send one specific wish, ask whether practical help is wanted and do not require a live update or promise of success in return for your encouragement.

Name what they are facing

Mention the presentation, audition, appointment or exam they told you about. A specific reference shows that you remembered without asking them to repeat every detail. Keep the first message short enough to read when their attention is already occupied.

Offer support with an exit

You can offer a quiet meal, a lift from a public point or a check-in after the event, but make the offer optional. Do not send last-minute coaching unless requested. Your role can simply be to wish them well and leave them space.

Let the outcome belong to them

Avoid โ€œyou will definitely ace itโ€ when you cannot know that. Say that you trust the preparation they described or that you are rooting for them regardless of the result. Afterward, ask whether they want to talk about it before asking how it went.

Message examples

Send a specific wish

Good luck with the planning presentation at ten. Youโ€™ve prepared the difficult numbers carefully. No need to replyโ€”Iโ€™ll be cheering for you and can listen afterwards if you want.

It remembers the event, recognises preparation and removes the obligation to answer before it begins.

Offer practical help lightly

If a quiet dinner after the exam would help, I can bring something by at six. If you need to decompress alone, that is completely fine too.

It offers one concrete form of care while making solitude an equally acceptable choice.

Frequently asked questions

Should I send advice the night before?

Ask first or wait until they request it. Last-minute advice can add noise and imply that their preparation is insufficient; a short supportive message may be more useful.

What if the event goes badly?

Ask what kind of company they want before analysing it. Acknowledge the result without treating it as a verdict on their ability, and let them decide whether to review, rest or change the subject.
