How to add and greet a known contact on WeChat

Adding someone on WeChat should begin with a known contact and a clear agreement about how to find each other. Check whose ID or QR code you have, keep it private and distinguish a contact QR from a payment QR. Add context to the request, do not read acceptance as romantic interest and allow the other person to choose the pace. WeChat and Weixin can differ by region and version, so avoid treating a particular menu or behaviour as universal.

Check the ID or QR first

Ask, โ€œIs this your WeChat ID?โ€ If you met in person, check the displayed name and make sure a request is expected. Do not put a contact QR in a story, public group or forum. If someone asks you to scan a code without explaining it, pause and ask what it does.

A friend request code and a payment code are not interchangeable. Never send money, identity documents or bank details to a new contact as proof of who you are.

Make the request recognisable

Say where you met: โ€œI am Mei from Tuesdayโ€™s cooking class; you gave me your ID at the end.โ€ This gives the person enough context to decide. Do not make up a story or ask them to accept before explaining who you are.

Acceptance only opens a channel. It does not confirm attraction, close friendship or availability. If the request stays pending or is declined, respect that and do not try another account.

Start with shared context

After acceptance, return to one topic from your meeting: a recipe, book or event. Ask a manageable question and add a small response of your own. Avoid opening with requests for photos, live location or a video call; each one needs a fresh agreement.

Moments shows what a person has chosen to share. A visible post is not permission to comment on everything, and posting frequency is not a dependable signal of attraction.

Respect privacy and pace

Ask before moving to voice or video: โ€œWould you fancy a short call this week, or shall we keep messaging?โ€ If they decline, stay with text or close the conversation. Reply time cannot tell you exactly how someone feels; schedules and communication habits differ.

For a meeting, pick a public place and arrange your own transport. Do not share your home, precise workplace, live location or personal photos you do not want saved. Features in WeChat and Weixin may differ by region and version, so check your own settings.

Message examples

A request with context

Hi, I am Lin from Saturdayโ€™s language exchange. I am adding you because you said you would send me that bookโ€™s name.

The recipient can place the request and decide without guessing who is behind it.

Checking a code

Is this QR for adding you as a contact? I do not want to scan a payment code by mistake.

It confirms the purpose before scanning and protects against an unexpected financial action.

Asking before calling

I enjoyed your point about the exhibition. Would a five-minute voice call suit you this week, or would you rather keep messaging?

It connects the call to a shared subject, sets a short length and leaves messages as an equal option.

FAQ about WeChat

Common questions about writing, using AI and keeping the chat natural.

Does accepting a WeChat request mean they are interested in me?
No. It only shows that a channel was opened. It is not proof of romantic interest or permission to request more information.
Can I scan every QR code I receive?
No. Confirm who sent it and its purpose, particularly because a contact QR and a payment QR do different jobs. Keep codes private and never send documents or money to a new contact.

Pro tip: upload a readable WeChat screenshot in RIZR, compare a few tones and only send what sounds like you. How it works.
