Your battery is nearly empty before meeting

When your phone is about to die before a meeting, use the remaining battery to confirm the essentials and set a simple waiting cut-off. Once you go offline, the other person cannot know why. That silence should not become a test of rejection or an obligation to wait forever.

Send the essentials first

Confirm the exact entrance or landmark, the agreed time and how long either person will wait. If there are several entrances, choose one now. Keep the message short enough to send before the phone powers down, and do not start a new discussion.

Agree what happens offline

Tell them your battery may run out and say what you will do if you cannot reconnect. A visible cafรฉ or a fifteen-minute limit can make the plan workable; it is still fine for either person to leave. Do not ask them to track you.

Interpret silence carefully

If the phone later stops responding, hold to the agreed cut-off rather than inventing a story. They may have lost signal, changed plans or simply gone home. When you recharge, apologise for the lost contact and ask whether rescheduling is preferable.

Message examples

Confirm before switching off

My phone is at 2%. Iโ€™ll meet you at the north entrance at 19:00; if we miss each other, shall we both wait until 19:15 and then head home?

It confirms the location and gives both people the same reasonable endpoint.

Repair after reconnecting

My phone died before I could update you. Iโ€™m sorry you were left without a message. Did you get home safely, and would you rather reschedule?

It explains the gap without treating the other personโ€™s decision as a rejection.

Frequently asked questions

Should I send my live location before the battery dies?

Only if you already want to share it and it helps with the agreed meeting point. A live location is not a substitute for a clear entrance, time and waiting limit, and nobody has to provide one.

What if they leave before I arrive?

Accept the cut-off you agreed. Apologise for the disruption and offer a new plan only if you still want one. Their choice to stop waiting is reasonable information about the cost of the failed coordination.
