A practical playbook

Asking for clearer messages without sounding sharp

How to ask for readable messages when long blocks, emoji chains, or image-only posts make a chat difficult to follow, without blaming the sender.

A message can be difficult to follow without anyone doing anything wrong. Ask for the format that helps you understand, describe the change, and keep the request about the conversation.

Describe the reading problem, not their character

Say what is difficult to follow: a long block, an emoji chain, or an image whose meaning depends on text you cannot see. Avoid calling the style careless or annoying.

You need not explain private reasons for wanting clarity. A request for plain wording gives the other person something immediate to try.

Ask for one concrete change

Request shorter paragraphs, one sentence in plain text, or fewer emojis around the key point. A specific request is easier than โ€œwrite betterโ€.

Offer a normal way to clarify: ask what an image means, request missing words, or suggest continuing in text.

Keep the conversation mutual

Thank the person when the new format helps, and make your own messages clear too. Repeat the request without turning every reply into a correction.

If they do not want to change, choose what works for you: ask for one clear sentence, change the subject, or stop without insulting them.

Message examples

A specific request

Could we keep this in plain text and use fewer emojis around the main point? I want to follow you.

It names the change as a way to understand the conversation without judging the sender.

A simple clarification

I am not sure what the image means. Could you put the key part into one sentence?

It asks for the missing meaning and offers an easy format.

Questions

Do I need to explain why I prefer plain text?

No. You can ask for a clearer format because it helps you follow the chat. Share more only if you want to.

What if they take it personally?

Say that you are describing what helps you understand, not rating them. If it still does not work, change the subject or step away.
